The 2008-2009 membership drive is underway.  Joining the PTA is the fastest way to make a big difference in the education and welfare of our students.  You can bring this form with payment to the Open House/Picnic on Friday,
August 22.

How much does it cost?  For the 2008-09 school year, memberships are just $7.50 per member.  But this year, we’re offering a two-for-$10 deal.  That’s just $5.00 per member!  Plus, we are offering a FREE Gift for membership for each PTA member who joins in the month of September (while supplies last).

Who can join?  Everyone!  Don’t forget the following people: spouses, grandparents, aunts and uncles, babysitters, neighbors, and friends are a great start.  New this year we also have business memberships available for just $20, so encourage your company to support the education and future of our county!  Business membership forms are on our website.

Announcing the PTA Cluster Challenge: The Cluster with the most memberships per students as of October 31, will enjoy a special party sponsored by the PTA to be held in mid-November.

Be a part of the solution.  Join the William S. James PTA today as we make a difference in the lives of all of the children of William S. James Elementary School.

Lunch Charge Notice

With the cost of everything from gasoline to housing rising at an alarming rate, the Harford County Public School system finds it necessary to address the issue of the ever-growing number of unpaid lunch charges accrued throughout the years.  While most parents and families are diligent about repaying a lunch charge “loan”, unfortunately that is not always the case, and that has prompted a new policy for elementary lunch charges.

It remains expected that a lunch charge be repaid the next school day.  In the event that a charge is not repaid, and subsequent charges are made for the same student, only the sum of $17.00 will be allowed to carry as a negative balance.  This equals approximately two weeks of lunch charges.  When this amount is reached on an individual account, an AlertNow call will be made to the home to advise the parent that a student will be provided only a “No Choice” meal at lunchtime until all charges are paid.  This meal is most likely to consist of a cheese sandwich with fruit juice, fresh fruit and milk.  This meal is not free, the student’s account will still be charged for this tray.

When there are extenuating circumstances surrounding an inability to repay lunch charges, we encourage families to take advantage of the Free and Reduced Meal applications available at all schools.
